My Latest Article - Email Marketing: Nine Easy Ways to Grow An Opt-in List For Free - Published on Suite101.com

Online Writing for Satisfaction, Not Dollars

I am sticking to my plan of submitting an article to Suite every alternate day.
Here's the latest:

Email Marketing: Nine Easy Ways to Grow An Opt-in List For Free

It again took me three hours to revise this article and format and submit to Suite.

Eight articles in 15 days is a good start.

I want to make the whole process faster without sacrificing quality and maybe write two articles every three days.

The main thing is to complete the cycle of starting, completing, revising, formatting, and submitting as soon as possible.

Marketing is a different ball game altogether.

I need to write two more articles for Suite to complete the minimum requirement of ten articles every three months and will complete that within a couple of days.

How to Add Titles and Special Effects Easily to YouTube Videos - Post Seventh Article on Suite101.com

Figure Out All the Angles of Life

It still takes me three hours to publish an article at Suite101.com.

The latest article is the 7th at Suite.

How to Add Titles and Special Effects Easily to YouTube Videos

This is my fourth article on creating videos and I will be writing at least two or three more articles.

One advantage is that I am interlinking these articles, by providing links to each other within the article and giving a list of the other articles under Related Articles. So anyone who reads one of these articles is likely to click on the other links and read the other articles since they are so closely related.

For example, in this article, these are the internal links to the previous three articles on videos, right at the start of the article:

Creating and uploading videos on YouTube is one of the most effective methods of online marketing. Fortunately, almost all the steps of video-marketing such as:
are quick, easy and extremely cost-effective.

And these are the external links at the end of the article:

All the other articles are similarly interlinked to each other. This increase their individual ranking in Google Search Pages.

Besides, Suite also displays hyperlinked titles of my related articles automatically on the same page alongside my article.

I plan to submit one more article in June, maybe two.

Score so far in two weeks: 7 articles, 250 pageviews, $2.15 revenue.

So far, so good.

Another cool feature of Suite101.com for its writers is the widget of the last three articles.

Without further ado, here it is:

Edit Online Videos Easily and Quickly Before Uploading to YouTube Published at Suite101.com

Say Cheese, Pretty Please.
Flickr.com

I published my sixth article at Suite101.com today.

Edit Online Videos Easily and Quickly Before Uploading to YouTube

I have interlinked all the three video articles to each other so anyone who reads one of them may read the others as well. I plan to write at least another three articles on online videos so I will ultimately have six articles all interlinked to each other.

So good start to the feek: submit this article and also post two blogs.

Another cool feature at Suite101.com is that each Suite writer gets a homepage where they can post a short bio with their mugshot.

Some important  benefits of this Suite writer homepage:
  • You can include your blog or website with a link.
  • Your latest articles are listed here with hyperlinks to each one.
  • There is a link that will open another page displaying all your articles published at Suite - with about fifty article titles in each page.
  • Each article has your name which is linked to this author page. So anyone who clicks on your name can read your bio, check your other article titles, open and read any other article and visit your blog or website.
Is that cool or what?

By the way, freepixels.com was not accessible today, so I downloaded images from flickr.com.

Suite101.com - Revenue Chart Screenshot

Suite101.com - My Revenue Chart Screenshot

What you see above is one of the cool features in Suite for writers - a graphic representation of the revenue that my five articles have earned so far. I started off with a sedate five cent opening gambit and then the two peaks are for 37 and 36 cents with a humble one cent sandwiched in between.

I just love those twin peaks.

So I am making a few cents daily on a base of just five articles. So I have decided to go ahead and write an article for Suite first thing daily and try to reach the milestone of 50 articles latest by 25 September. I am giving myself two days for each article though I will try to submit an article daily.

I am posting this here so that my muse and anti-muse can both see it.

Okay, now I am going to submit my sixth article.

Jai ho!

(I saved my post yesterday about Suite's coolest features without posting it and planned to continue it today before clicking "Submit Post". However, I have posted it as it is. I may add to it some other day or just delete it or link it to the new post with all the coolest features.)

Bonus tip: Always preview your blog post before clicking "Publish Post". I did that and had to resize the image.

Be good and you will naturally be blessed.

Suite101.com - Coolest Features

Suite101 is A Good Way for a Newbie Writer
http://www.freepixels.com

I posted my first article on Suite101.com about ten days ago on 14 June.
Since then, I have submitted five articles. The scores so far: Pageviews: 163 and revenue $0.43.

I am going to list some of the cool features of Suite101.com

1. Suite101.com has an application process that includes submission of two non-fiction articles. The application process is simple, straightforward, and relatively painless. Also, the application is approved within a day or two.

2. Even though, the submission of two sample articles is a relatively low hurdle, it is better than most other content websites, which do not have any minimum requirements.

3. Once your application is approved, you get a separate page where you can post a short bio, and more importantly, your website or blog hyperlink. This is the page where your latest articles are displayed with links. Visitors also have the option of clicking a link to a new page where all your articles are listed.
For example, here is my page: Suite101/Rohi's articles.

4. One of the best features of Suite101.com are the free writing tutorials called the simple Learning Hub.

Suite101.com Revenue

Suite Revenue Stream Starts Flowing
http://www.freepixels.com

Okay, five cents rolled into my Suite account on 20 June and another 37 cents rolled in on 22 June.
Grand total: 42 cents so far.
Promising start.
I started just ten days ago and have just five articles published.

I was skeptical about the Suite101.com income model for its writers: Suite's writers are paid only if and when someone clicks on any of the ads surrounding their articles.

It does seem quite a precarious way to make a buck. Why would anyone want to click on ads? I hardly ever do.

You get zilch even if a thousand people read your articles but don't click on any ad.

Well, Google is earning millions from their Pay-per-click ads every month. Suite101.com earns thousands of dollars.
Many writers at Suite are making hundreds of dollars every month presumably because other people are reading their articles and clicking on ads around their articles.

I read that a Suite writer can count on earning a dollar per article per month. Many do better. Most don't.

Life is unpredictable.
And so are the earnings from writing for Suite101.com.

So if you are writing for Suite only for the money, you should perhaps put on your thinking cap.

One thing is clear: the more articles you publish, the more you are likely to  earn.

As Julia Cameron advises: Take care of the quantity and let the universe take care of the quality.

Amen to that and good night.

Suite101.com - Fifth Article Published

Second article on Video on Suite101.com      www.freepixels.com

So I am published my fifth article and it took me about three hours.

Suite101.com - Fourth Article Published

Light the lamp within.                     freepixels.com

I tried to submit my fourth article at Suite as quickly as possible but it still took two hours. Then the Suite Tech section editor, Guy W. Lecky-Thompson, wanted me to make a few improvements - add third-party hyperlinks and references. Perfectly reasonable and I did it at once but it took about an hour.

Pageviews have reached 100 but revenue is still zilch. It will be interesting to see how long it takes before someone clicks on an ad surrounding one of my articles and the first few cents roll into my account.

Today is the first day of Feek 7 and posting my fourth article has been the biggest rock today.

I have tried to use a more jazzy title for this article:

The Simple No-Frills Way to Shoot High-Quality Videos for YouTube

Tomorrow, I may take a break and write a sonnet for a contest.
Or go to British Library.

I plan to hit the sack early today.
Immediately after I complete this post.
Which I have.
Good night, all.

Why You Should Write For Suite101.com

Life is a Journey, Not a Destination...   freepixels.com

Writing for Suite101.com is the same.

First the bad news.

I have submitted three articles to Suite in the past 6 days and have got 82 pageviews and three comments.

And the revenue is still zilch.

And yet, I am not overly dismayed.

(Though I would have happy to get off the mark.)

I am still learning the ropes and am in for the long haul.

So far, I have had a good experience with Suite101.

All three articles are up without any hassles.

Suite101.com pays its writers a share of its AdSense revenue so we get paid only if someone clicks the ads surrounding our articles.

Sounds a rather precarious way to make an honest buck.

And yet, it seems there are scores of writers who have making a lot of money writing for Suite.

Also, once your article is published in Suite, it has the potential to make money lifelong. Those clicks add up over the days, weeks and months. At least in theory.

My immediate focus is to write and submit articles faster on Suite.

One article a day.

Suite wants writers to submit at least ten articles every three months.
That's reasonable.

Another incentive is that writers who submit more than 50 articles earn 10 percent more revenue. That is, 11 dollars instead of 10 dollars.

So my aim is to write 50 articles for Suite as soon as possible and see how it goes.

Meanwhile, I am learning about how to write and submit good articles fast, about SEO (search-engine optimization) and how to publicize my articles more effectively.

The forums are useful and the other Suite writers are friendly and helpful.

I joined StumbleUpon.com and Digg.com today after reading a post in the forums.

So all in all, I am happy so far.
And if I die tonight, I'll die happy.

To paraphrase Seneca, As long as you live, keep learning how to write.

Just checked "My Suite" and revenue is still a big fat zero.
(Zero was invented by Indians and has haunted us ever since.)

Third Article Goes Live on Suite101.com

Sorry, I didn't post yesterday.

When I looked at the time, it was already 4.30 am and though I didn't feel at all sleepy and could easily have written a blog post before going to bed, I decided not to.

Discipline.

The reason why I lost track of the time is because I was submitting my third article on Suite101.com. I revised it and then interlinked it with my first article.

It took much longer than I planned and I forgot to set the alarm on my cell phone, which I do, every hour on the hour. When the alarm goes off, I set it for the next hour and record what I did in the previous hour and whether I need to do something else.

It's simple and so it works for me. Except when I forget to set the alarm and lose track completely. It's happening less frequently than before. Which is always a good thing.

Okay, here's the link to my third article on Suite:

Email Marketing With an Opt-in List of Enthusiastic Subscribers

Yeah, I know, it sounds insanely interesting.
So much for now.
I will be posting again tonight.
By the way, the picture is from freepixels.com.
I added it to the third article.
It doesn't display correctly in Suite: the second 'e' is missing.
I bet no one notices.
Except you.

Information Overload

Information overload is inevitable and irresitible.
It's like the chocolate cake always in front of your face.
Sooner or later, you can going to reach out for a slice.

 Newspapers.

Television.

Cell-phone.

Blackberry

Internet.

Email.

Books.

Multi-tasking.

The only way to reduce information overload is to define your goals and to stick to them as closely as possible.

As far as possible, keep only one window of your computer open.

Turn off the email alerts, the IM windows, the Internet browser.
Better yet, switch off the broadband connection whenever it's not required.

Focus on one thing at a time.

Give it all your attention.

Until it's done or you're done with it.

Then go on to the next thing.

Quit the clamor. Cut the static before it deafens you and deadens your senses.

Focus.

Some Days Are Diamonds, Some Days Are Stones

Okay, today was a stone.

There were some good parts, but on the whole, lost my way several times during the day.

Read Suite101.com forum posts, watched a few YouTube music videos, then watched Legally Blonde on TV at home and then again watched YouTube.

It wasn't all bad but definitely not great. Let's say this is the off-day of the feek.

Thanks to the rains, it's cool but now there's mosquitoes.

I will make sure to plan tomorrow before I sleep so that I get a running start tomorrow.

So there are others who are afflicted with high distractibility; many more, judging from the comments in her blog.

So I just have to fight the good fight. Keep the faith. And focus.

First Article Published at Suite101.com

Today has been another good day.

My first article, How to Get the Best Value from Google Pay-per-Click Marketing, has been published by Suite101.com.

Here's the link: First Suite101.com article.

Now I plan to submit an article a day on Suite101.com.

The main thing is to create content daily and publish it.

Almost as important is to create content fast.

It took me about ten hours to write, revise and publish the first article and I have to do it much faster.

My next target is to publish ten articles and I hope to do it by the end of this month.

Okay, ciao for now.

Who said this?

Re-submitted First Article to Suite101.com

Lisa Nichols, the Suite101.com editor of the Business section politely asked me to make a few changes in my article on Pay-per-Click marketing and I spent most of the day rewriting it.

One reason why it took so much time is that Suite101.com did not save my article and I had to reformat and re-submit it three times.

All part of the learning experience.

Read And Be A Villain by Rex Stout.

On the whole, today has been a good day, though of course, it could have been better.

I hope I don't have to make any more changes in my first article.

I may write new articles because adapting my old articles for Suite101.com is taking just as long.

Now for the image for today's post:

Suite101.com - Submit First Article

Today, I decided that my main goal would be to submit my first article to Suite101.com.

It took me four hours but I finally clicked the 'Submit article' button at 5 pm.

So that was good.

In the process, I downloaded and linked an image to the article.

Here's the image that I added to my first article to Suite101.com

So from towards onwards, I'll add an image to every post.

Next I have to figure out how to add captions to images in Blogger.com.

Ciao.

Information Overload - What Works for Me - 5-day goals

I have borderline Attention Deficit Disorder.

And not so borderline either.

More like I am living in an ADD border town.

I have been fighting it all my life.

In school, college, medical school, on the meditation cushion and everywhere else.

Have I become better at handling distractions?

I haven't noticed.
Which is not a good sign.

The good news is I have become more aware that I am easily distracted and swing from one project to another.

My latest strategy is to give five main goals for five days.
I then track my progress over the next five days.
At the end of five days, I review my performance and based on it, I give myself five goals for the next five days.

Many of the productivity gurus, including Stephen Covey and David Allen, recommend the week as the linchpin of the self-mastery plan but one week is too long for me. I lose my way much before that.

Five days works well for me - I call it the feek.

It also is easier to calculate daily averages for five days or ten days (2 feeks) instead of seven days.

Now I am in the middle of Feek 5 (11 to 15 June) and I can see the improvement since I started this on 21 May.

Just sticking to this program for more than 20 days is a reward in itself.

I write the goals for each feek in my diary and then write the results at the end of the feek. So I can track my progress from the start.

For example, my goals for this feek are:

1. Yoga class (4 classes, 'coz Sunday is a holiday)
2. Write articles for Suite101.com (10 hours)
3. Write 5 posts in this blog
4. Dr. Mani's Mentoring Program (5 hours)
5. Meditation - 10 hours

These are my MAIN goals and there is enough time to do any of the other goals that are required such as replying email, errands, time with family and friends, etc.

One change I have noticed is that I am giving myself fewer and less ambitious goals.

It's working for me.

What works for you?

How do you focus?

My Plans for the Next Two Months

Hi all,

Here are my plans for the next 60 days:

1. Submit at least ten articles to Suite101.com

2. Complete Dr. Mani's 45-day Infopreneur Mentoring Program

3. Post on this blog at least once daily. (Yeah, right!)

4. Attend Yoga class at National Institute of Naturopathy (six day every week)

5. Start Yoga class at Iyenger Institute (once every week)

6. Start reading and making notes on different aspects of weight-loss.

7. Continue the five-day (feek) system of plan-act-review

8. After completing Dr. Mani's program, I may start Taichi class twice every week.

9. Empty email inbox to zero every ten days.

10. Last but not least, develop the ten paramis.

Okay, good comeback.

Something attempted, something achieved,
Has earned a night's repose.

Plan.
Act.
Review.
(Repeat)

Much metta,
Rohi
